Rend, xxxviii. p. 3, 1854. Type P. jamaicensis (Gmel.).. Fig. 147.—To illustrate the shape of the bill. The species on which this genus was founded is of medium size. The bill is somewhat short and compressed, and slightly hooked at the tip of the upper mandible. The wing is rounded, the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth primaries are longest and subequal, the second is slightly shorter than the seventh, and the firet less than one-fourth the length of the second. The tail is square at the tip and about three-fourths the length of the wing, and the tarsus exceeds by about one-fourth the length of the exposed culmen. Coloration : male and female similar.
