The treatment we used with most success at first was theSecond Method, and it was rare that we found one that did not sub-mit to this readily. However, it was not in all cases the clear suc-cess we could desire, and we then depended upon the simpler meth-ods of treatment, making sometimes a good deal of work ; but when (363) 264 THE MULE. we struck the Third Method in connection with the Second, wefound mules to yield to treatment very readily. I have in mind twocases which will fairly illustrate others.
