Brain sinuses. Axial section through the head at the level of the base of the skull (front of head at top), showing the sinuses (blue) of the brain's dura mater. The dural venous sinuses drain deoxygenated blood from the brain. Here, those on the left are filled by injection, while those on the right are empty. This anatomical artwork is plate 171 from volume 3 of 'Manuel d'anatomie descriptive du corps humain' (1825). This 5-volume anatomy atlas was produced by French physician and surgeon Jules Germain Cloquet (1790-1883). The illustrations were by Haincelin. Volume 3 illustrated the anatomy of the human nervous system.
