One of a pair of bollards formerly flanking the approach ramp to a Roman bridge which carried Hadrian's Wall over the North Tyne river at Chesters, UK

Thought to be one of a pair of bollards formerly flanking the approach ramp to a Roman bridge which carried Hadrian's Wall over the North Tyne river at Chesters Roman fort. There are two main phases of bridge remains (Hadrianic & Severan), the 'bollard' may be a column from the earlier (C2ndAD) bridge rather than the C3rdAD rebuild. The stone lies on the masonry apron of the C3rd bridge abutment.
