A selection of decorative Venetians face mask in a handmade mask-making shop/art studio called ‘Ca’ Macana’ in a narrow street, named, Dorsoduro, in the university district filled with eateries, indie shops and vintage fashion boutiques in Venice in northern Italy. Venice is the only city in the world for its famous Venetian theatrical and masquerade masks, and has been for centuries. At one time, there were many face masking shops in and around the narrow streets of Venice, handcrafting masks to suit all individual taste. Ca’Macana is the oldest in Venice, and one of the very few to survive against the mass import of masks from China which are sold in tourist souvenir shops. At Ca’Macana, passing visitors stop to admire its full window display of a variety of masks in an assortment of vivid colours and unique designs. Visitors are also welcome to watch how a mask is made from start to finish, or try their hand at mask painting with its owner, Mario Bellon in the art studio at the back of the shop. .
