Onaccount of the large number ofvertical and horizontal curves inthe track, this construction has averaged about ninetypoles to the mile. The lengths of poles varied from thirty feet tosixty feet, depending on the relative height to track of theground in which the pole was set, the line of the tops ofthe poles being parallel to the surface of the track.
