Remote railway station at Duncraig on the scenic Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh railway line, Western Highlands, Scotland UK

The Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh railway line, also known as the Kyle Line, is mainly single track. Renowned as one of the most scenic rail journeys in Britain, it passes through remote and spectacular Highland scenery on its route from the east coast to the west. Although operated by Scotland's rail company ScotRail, it has the look and feel of a heritage railway, with tiny stations in rural locations, and some original preserved features. Duncraig station, or halt, is particularly unusual in that it was constructed specifically for Sir Alexander Matheson to serve his adjacent mansion, Duncraig Castle. There is no car park, and the only vehicular access is by a narrow private track past the castle and through the thickly wooded grounds. The station, including the idiosyncratic hexagonal waiting room, was given Category B listing in 1997. It is a request stop on the Kyle line.
