This fragment of 15th century stained glass, a portrait of an individual with long golden hair within an orange-red surround, was donated in 1955 to the medieval Parish Church of Saint Laurence at Hawkhurst, Kent, United Kingdom, to help compensate for ancient glass blown from its windows when a German V1 flying bomb exploded in the churchyard in August 1944. Extensive damage caused by the blast was not fully repaired until 1957. A few pieces of retrieved ancient glass were made into a new roundel, and shrapnel from the V1 itself is now displayed in the church.

Hawkhurst, Kent, England, United Kingdom: this fragment of 15th century stained glass, a portrait of an individual with long golden hair within an orange-red surround, was donated in 1955 to the medieval Parish Church of Saint Laurence to help compensate for ancient glass blown from its windows when a German V1 flying bomb exploded in the churchyard in August 1944. The extensive damage caused by the explosion was not fully repaired until 1957. A few pieces of the shattered ancient glass were saved and painstakingly re-assembled into a new roundel, and twisted metal shrapnel from the flying bomb itself is now displayed on a windowsill within the church.
