Partial lunar eclipse of 10 December 2011, photographed from Loudwater, Bucks, UK.
Partial lunar eclipse of 10 December 2011, photographed from Loudwater, Bucks, UK. The Moon rose as the eclipse was ending, so only the late stages of the event were seen from the UK though all stages, including totality, were seen from farther east, particularly Asia and Australasia. The orange colour is mostly due to the low altitude of the Moon, rather than to the effects of the eclipse itself, which are only obvious during the total eclipse. The photograph was taken through an 80 mm telescope. Credit Robin Scagell/Galaxy
