Lola Ward,8,tiptoed through the tulips in Britain's last remaining bulbfields this morning (Fri) as she made the most of a break in the April showers. The eight-year-old danced between the rows of colourful flowers at the UK's biggest tulip bulb producer as the Met Office forecasts more rain, cooler temperatures and even SNOW this weekend. The stunning blooms at family-run Belmont Nurseries near King's Lynn in Norfolk have been grown under polythene to help them flower early. The rest of the crop is expected to catch up in around three weeks. "It has been a slower growing season. Spring started early, but then the weather got cooler and the flowers slowed down," said farmer Mark Eves, whose in-laws Janet and Peter Ward own the business. "The early varieties seem to be extra early this year and the late ones later than usual so we are expecting a longer flowering season, which is good." Janet and Peter Ward have been growing tulips for 16 years and supply more than 20 million stems to supermarkets each year.
