Late C15th schist cross-shaft & (separate) head with leafy interlace in Kildonnan graveyard, Isle of Eigg, where St Donan established his monastery.

A late C15th schist cross-shaft decorated with leafy interlace in Kildonnan graveyard, Isle of Eigg, The head probably comes from a different shaft, but there is a story that the cross was brought to Eigg (already broken) from Iona where it marked the grave of a MacKinnon chief. To rear the distinctive pitchstone ridge of An Sgurr. St Donan (Donnan) established a monastery at Kildonnan but he & his 52 monks were murdered after celebrating Mass on Easter night 617.
