Windmills on La Paz hill. In this town, in 1575, there were 27 windmills. These windmills in Campo de Criptana are especially important in Cervantes's book because this is where the writer stands the battle between D. Quixote and the giants. These buildings were used to grind wheat, were of great importance in the economy of the region. The decline in wheat mills came with the appearance on the market of American and Australian wheat. Given this strong competition, in La Mancha was chosen planting vineyards for the production of wine.
