Harriet Ann and her husband Fred James imigrated from England and established themselves as one of the first nine families of Virginia City. In 1870 Virginia City had a population of less than 50. There were only thirteen structures in town. Fred worked as a miner and Harriet a house keeper. Her headstone reads "Yes she is gone and we are going all: like flowers we wither and like leaves we fall"
