Fossil Pecopteris polymorpha fern. Pecopteris is a now extinct genus of ferns that flourished worldwide from the late Devonian well into the Carboniferous period. They were flowerless and seedless vascular plants characterized by loosely arranged leaflets standing out perpendicularly on the vein, resembling a comb.
