Gall bladder cancer surgery. Image 11 of 12. Surgical wound being stapled up following surgery to remove a cancerous gall bladder. The gall bladder is a small organ that stores bile from the liver, and releases it into the digestive tract. Cancer of the gall bladder is relatively rare, and is usually treated by surgical removal. Prognosis is poor, because the cancer has usually spread, requiring removal of parts of the liver and other surrounding organs.
