The Alban bun predecessor to the hot cross bun
This is the Alban bun which was produced prior to the hot cross bun and had the cross cut into the top rather than piped onto it. Originating in the 14th century it was said to be distributed to the poor on Good Friday by Brother Thomas Rocliffe, a monk at the monastery of St. Albans.
