In May of that year he tookthe regular examination for medical service in theUnited States Army; and in July was commissionedAssistant Surgeon, with assignment to duty in theTotten General Hospital at Louisville, he became a member of the Medical Examin-ing Board and Surgeon-in-Charge of the FoundryGeneral Hospital at Louisville. He was dischargedfrom the service August 22, 1865, with the brevetrank of Captain of United States Volunteers.
