Seven chil-dren were taken into his household andwere raised in an atmosphere of tenderaffection. His adopted family con-sisted of David R. Allen (professor inthe Utah University), John Held andhis sister Hortense, Rosa Zender Roy-lance (wife of Professor Roylance, ofthe University of Utah), and Louis andEliza Gottlieb.
