The patient 14 THE CONSUMPTIVE WORKING MAN. whose chart is shown was walking twelve miles a day. Thenext record shows a weekly temperature curve with severalirregularities. On the first, fourth and fifth days the curve istypically normal, but on the second, third and seventh daysthere are distinctly higher temperatures than usual, either atone oclock or eight oclock. These elevations of temperaturemight be due either to the rest hour being shortened, therethus not being time for the temperature raised by exerciseto fall to normal, or to the exercise taken having been exces-sive, the resulting high temperature not having fallen duringthe hours rest.
