Thesethree latter parks are all in the western part of the city, in succes-sive order from north to south, and some four or five miles from thelake. Other boulevards running south and east from Douglas Parkfinally reach, after a course of several miles, Washington Park, theoldest and best improved of all on the South side. This is sixmiles from the business centre, and directly south of it, so that thevisitor has now encircled the city, starting from Lincoln Park twomiles north of the business centre. At the south end of Washing-ton Park there extends eastward, for a mile, a strip of land 600 feetin width, a part of the park system, called Midway Plaisance.
