The field should then be harrowed and packed, and a dust mulch maintained until the time of planting. The sowing should be delayed two or three weeks after the usual date of planting. Grasshoppers. Grass- hoppers are among the most destructive of pests on the farms in the western half of the state, and almost every season they seriously injure crops. The young hoppers appear early in the summer. At this time they are small and have no wings, but otherwise resemble the adults. By about midsummer their wings are fully developed, and.
