Draper's 28-inch telescope, 19th century. This reflector telescope was operated by US physician and amateur astronomer Henry Draper (1837-1882) at his observatory at Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, USA. It has an equatorial mount, and two smaller telescopes attached (12-inch achromatic and 5-inch finder). The installation of this 28-inch telescope (Cassegrain design) was completed in 1872. Draper used this telescope to obtain the first ever photograph of the spectra of a star, imaging Vega on 29 May 1872.
