HE grand strain of Hollyhocks, types of which are shown on the Colored Plate opposite, we have secured only after years of carefulselection. We grow annually thousands of these and have for years selected those that show the most perfect form, largest sizeand purest color. From these carefully selected plants the varieties now offered have been produced, and the improvement hasbeen so marked that the varieties of a few years ago could bear no comparison with them. The general tendency of the times towardpicturesque gardening induced us to continue our labors on these until the present grand result was reached, and no better subjectcould be obtained than the Hollyhock.
