Private 1st Class John K. Barancek, a Hungarian soldier serving in the Co. 125th Infantry during World War I. Born in Mokraluka, Austria-Hungary, he immigrated to America in 1906. Despite language barriers, he served with distinction and did not fall ill or sustain injuries. His brother is currently a prisoner in Italy. John worked as a machine shop tool grinder in Flint, Michigan, earning $ per day. He possessed quick thinking skills and displayed good leadership qualities, despite disciplinary actions for minor offenses. The photo was taken in Euf, Germany.
