The Mexicans were now filled with enthusiasmand unwavering courage led them to make light of the discrepancies betweentheir military resources and those of their opponents. Diaz then laid siege tothe City of Oaxaca which surrendered on October 31st. This victory furnishedthe liberal army with much needed ammunition and artillery. Moving south-ward toward Tehuantepec, Diaz won the battles of La Chitova and Tequisistlanon December 19th and 26th. In January, 1867, the government was transferred.
