Les Eyzies de Tayac, Musée National de la Préhistoire, La Grèze Cave, Abri Pataud Rock Shelter Centre for area famous for prehistoric & historic settlement and rock art. National Museum of Prehistory is in former castle (C13th, restored C16th) of the barons of Beynac, built into rock face in front of La Grèze cave, which contains wall paintings. Statue of Neanderthal man by sculptor Dardé stands on terrace overlooking village road. View looking south east along D47 road showing the cliff, location of the museum, with sculpture of Neanderthal man just visible at far end. The Abri Pataud rock shelter is located halfway down.
