Two sessions of the association wereheld during the day—one in the morn-ing, and the other in the strenuous exertions of these ses-sions did not, however, seem to dampenthe ardor of President Alexander andthe other members who played the partof hosts at the fine dinner held at night ed to his connection with the iron andsteal industry), .J. M. Taylor, whohad been under the weather, and didnot feel equal to the emergency ; S. Major Currie, who responded to thetoast of Our Country. The banquet hall contained a numberof tables designed to seat ten personseach, and the guests were acquaintedwith their locations, by a list postedat the entrance. After the guests haddisposed of an array of viands, whichbore oui the traditions of even the Ca-nadian Wholesale Hardware Association,the speech making part of the programwas on. President S. II. Alexander, when herose to propose the toast to The King,was greeted with a hearty Hes aJolly Good Fellow, and the toastloyally drunk.
