The Victory Goddess NordreToldbod Copenhagen Denmark

The Victory Goddess. NordreToldbod, Copenhagen, Denmark. This is part of a memorial statue over Navy Commander Ivar Huitfeldt, erected 1886, created by Vilhlem Dahlerup (the pillar) and Ring (the Victory Goddess), as an appreciation of Huitfeldts heroic contribition during the Great Nordic War 1700-1721. During a battle at Køge Bugt October 1710 Huitfeldt put his ship on fire, in order to avoid the ship beeing captured by the enemy, and continued the fight until it exploded. Himself and most of his men died by the explosion, but he saved the Danish navy.
