Hemochromatosis, light micrograph. Hemochromatosis is an autosomal recessive disorder of iron metabolism that is characterised by iron deposition in various organs and tissues. Involvement of the heart can cause heart failure and arrhythmias. Microscopically, there are deposits of golden-brown material (hemosiderin) within the myocytes (muscle cells).
