Retinal vasculitis. Fundus photograph of the retina on the interior surface of the eye of a patient with retinal vasculitis that has caused atrophy (wasting away) of the optic disc (bright, right) and macular scarring (upper left). The retina is the light-sensitive layer lining the inner surface of the eye that contains the rod and cone cells. The macula is the central area of the retina that contains the highest density of these cells. Retinal vasculitis is inflammation of the vascular branches of the retinal artery.
