The 14 plates (including frontispiece) counting first edition of the Carceri' series was published by Giovanni Bouchard Rome between 1749-1750. This first edition of the series is titled "Invenzioni Capric di Carceri all Acquaforte. The second edition Piranesi himself gave out in 1761. For this publication he edited all the records and he added two new plates. The series was given the new title "Carceri d'invenzione'.
