It depicts the Legend of St Nicholas’s Golden Skyphos.
Chiesa della Misericordia (formerly Chiesa di San Salvatore), Piazza del Salvatore, Lucca, Tuscany, Italy: Romanesque carving, part of a lintel surmounting the southern portal by the 12th century sculptor Biduino or Biduinus (active c. 1173 - 1194) . It depicts a scene from the Legend of St Nicholas’s Golden Skyphos or Schyphos. The church dates back to1180, but the upper part was built in the 1800s. Biduino was an Italian sculptor and architect, born in Bidogno, near Lugano, who had a leading role in Lucca in the second half of the 12th century and is renowned for his austere but elegant style.
