The pump was designed and built at the shops of thecompany, and credit therefor is due to SuperintendentGustafson. The appliance was seen to possess greatmerit, and is covered with a patent. The car is provided with sand boxes, and can pull aload of over 30 tons over a 5 per cent grade with thegreatest ease. It was found desirable to gi\je the car an outwardappearance like the passenger cars of the line, in thisway inviting less criticism by reason of
