A branch of the tree grafted onCitrus triptera and kept in the coldest anddampest place in the garden survived 14° offrost without losing its leaves. Other plants ofthe hybrid having some trifoliolate leaves withwinged petioles, and others trifoliolate leaves withbare petioles suffered no injury from the the other hand certain hybrids with entireleaves were injured by 12°, and died from 14° offrost, while the fruits hung frozen to the extreme temperature is rare, so that thenew hybrid may be considered hardy in theordinary climate of France. Those plants thatdiffer most from C. triptera are least entire leaves (fig. 167, c) are like those ofthe ordinary Orange C. aurantium; the trifoliolateleaves being, as before observed, mostly evergreenand hardy (see fig. 1G7, a, b).
