View from the sea of the coast with the castle of San Terenzo (16th century) on a rocky spur in summer, La Spezia, Liguria, Italy
The castle of San Terenzo stands on a low rocky spur of the fishing village in a picturesque landscape. Built in the sixteenth century by the inhabitants of the village around an ancient watch tower, has been the subject of subsequent interventions in different eras that have not substantially changed the structure. The complex develops on two levels: the upper one, more ancient, with the two-storey tower and the lower one with a pentagonal plan with three circular towers at the corners. Today it is managed by the Polo Museale of Liguria and, after recent restorations, it hosts temporary exhibitions and cultural events.
