History of the New York Nursery and Childs Hospital HE work now carried on by the New York Nursery andChilds Hospital, succeeding to all the activities and toall the traditions of the oldest nursery, the oldest childshospital, and the oldest maternity hospital in the City ofNew York, which sent doctors to the homes of the poorat the time of childbirth, was begun in 1823. The presentcorporation was formed by the consolidation of the Nursery and ChildsHospital with the New York Infant Asylum, which had formerly consoli-dated with the old Marion Street Maternity Hospital. Each of these insti-tutions was a pioneer in its particular line of endeavor. The old Marion Street Maternity Hospital was organized in 1823and incorporated in 1827 as The New York Female Asylum for Lying-inWomen and was so called for the next seventy years.
