Vintage photo of US Vice President John Nance Garner (left) being shown a pair of 45-caliber pistols by Missouri Senator - and future President - Harry S Truman. The guns were said to have been once owned by the notorious outlaw Jesse James and had been obtained by Truman from the wife of a doctor who had been given them by Jesse’s brother Frank as payment for medical services. Photo by Harris & Ewing taken in Washington DC on February 17 1938. Garner (1868 – 1967) was the 32nd Vice President (1933 – 1941) and Truman (1884 – 1972) would later become the 33rd US President (1945 – 1953).
