Sperry Glacier, Montana, USA in 1913. Image 1 of 2. This panoramic view of Sperry Glacier, taken in 1913, shows the glacier spanning the entire basin (left to right). Glaciers are large, slow-moving expanses of ice, formed from compacted layers of snow. They are sensitive to climate change and in recent years most have retreated dramatically. See image C014/5136 for an image of the same glacier as seen in 2008.
