Court of Wards and Liveries, circa 1588-1589; Black and White Illustration; The Court of Wards and Liveries was set up by two Acts of Parliament in 1541 and 1542 during the reign of King Henry VIII. Its function was to preside over matters relating to the administration of feudal dues and tax revenues, as well as being responsible for wardship and livery issues.
