He was educated in the publicschools of Alloande, and entered service ofthe Pennsylvania Lines West of Pittsburgh usMessenger on the Eastern Division April 1, was advanced to Telegraph Operator on theEastern Division on October 1, 1885, and onNovember 18, 1889, he was transferred to tiieWestern Division. Mr. Patterson was promoted to Train Dis-patcher of the Western Division on January 1,1890, and advanced to Assistant Train Masterof the same division on February 25, 1899.
