Gardeners at a war cemetery in Cambridgeshire have been busy preparing the site to make it look perfect for Remembrance Sunday. The eight gardeners have been blowing away the leaves around the crosses and headstones at the American War Cemetery in Madingley, near Cambridge. The team spend two hours a week polishing the 3,811 headstones of the American soldiers, most of whom died in the Battle of the Atlantic or the air bombardment of northwest Europe. Three times a week they also clean the headstones using scrubbing brushes and diamond pads to remove dirt and bird droppings. This Sunday poppy wreaths will be laid at the cemetery to honour the Americans buried in England who died in both world wars. It marks 101 years since the end of the First World War.
