FrancisWharton, , was Professor from the beginning until 1882, whenhe withdrew from long and efficient labors. The chairs now in exist-ence are those of Old and of New Testament Study, EcclesiasticalHistory, Systematic Divinity, Homiletics and Pastoral Care, andApologetics. Among these six departments are divided all thebranches of study prescribed by the canons of the EPISCOPAL THEOLOGICAL SCHOOL, CAMBRIDGE. As to students, the number who have completed their studies is,up to July 1, 1884, eighty-four. They have come from nearly everydiocese, and are at Mork in as many parts of the Church. The highestnumber present at once has been thirty. There are now twenty-seven. The course covers, as usual, three years, with provision for post-graduate study, which is generally pursued by some each year. Thedegree of Bachelor in Divinity is granted to those who submit to anespecial examination on the whole course, and write assigned theses. As to conditions of admission, applicants nuist be Bachelors ofArts, or be examined by a fixed standard, unless they enter adeundem from other seminaries. This is necessary in order to maintainthat grade of scholarship which is required, in a place like Camliridge,for the credit of the Church, and where a large proportion of thestudents have had the thoroughness of
