ancient Roman bridge over the river Rapido, near Cassino, south of Rome, Italy

This ancient Roman bridge was built over the river Rapido, in the hills south east of Rome, near Cassino. Its original function was properly to allow the passage of cattle over a river that nowadays is dry for some months of the year. The ancient bridge is unusual as it has been constructed directly on the stones of the river banks. It is a typical example of an interesting ancient Roman structure that has been forgotten by most and is not easy to find.
