The popula-tion of the city, including Irvington, Brightwood, North Indianapolis*Belmont, Mt. Jackson and Haughsville, would be estimated (by the usualratio), at 100,000. The publishers estimate of the city proper is85,000 persons. A City Directory has now become a necessity, and not a luxury,as years ago, and the importance of an accurate one can not be over-esti-mated. The publishers of this volume feel confident that nothing hasbeen omitted in the compilation of this edition to make it correct andcomprehensive, and that it will be found free from errors.
