D., who for nearly a quarter ofa century was connected with Missionary Institute, (nowSusquehanna University,) very peacefully passed away , 1898, at an advanced age. He was a man of exceptionalnatural endowments, and would have distinguished himselfin any of the professions. As a preacher he took high rank, and in his palmy days had, in some respects, no superior inthe Lutheran pulpit in this country. His clear and deep in-sight into divine truth in all its bearings, his sound judgment, his great powers of analysis, his ability to express what hesaw and felt in plain, forcible and appropriate language, some-times bordered on the marvelous, and rendered his discoursesinteresting and instructive in an eminent degree. Thesequalities, which distinguished him in the pulpit, he evinced,if possible, in a greater degree in the piofessors chair. The professional chair, with Dr. Henry Ziegler in it, became thethrone of a prince in theology.
