Rock from meteorite impact crater
Rock from meteorite impact crater. This rock, which consists of a mineral called suevite, comes from the Nordlinger Ries impact crater in western Bavaria, Germany. The crater formed from an impact that took place some million years ago. The suevite mineral is a breccia, an aggregate of rock fragments fused into a matrix. Because it formed from an impact, it is known as an impact breccia.
