Malta. Satellite image of Malta, an independent republic in the Commonwealth of Nations. It is made up of five islands lying in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Sicily. The largest islands are Malta (lower right) and Gozo (upper left). Between them lie Comino, with Cominotto to its west. The tiny Filfla is south of Malta. Malta's capital and main port is Valletta (grey) around two inlets on Malta's northern coastline.
