Blue 2K 1940 Third Reich postage stamp, picturesque image of Pardubice/Pardubitz, Bohemia and Moravia (modern Czech Republic)

Pardubice (German Pardubitz) lies on the River Elbe, 94 kilometres east of Prague. Besides having a picturesque old historic centre (seen here)l it was also (and continues to be) a centre of industry, its Fanta Werke Oil Refinery being damaged by Allied air strikes in World War 2. This stamp was likely issued in the period 1939-1941. Between 16 March 1939 and 8 May 1945 the Third Reich issued over 100 stamps in the occupied territory of Bohemia and Moravia (the area of the modern Czech Republic). After Hitler's Birthday in April 1942, however, new stamps were issued with a large 'Deutsches Reich' inscription at the top and a small 'Bohmen und Mahren/Cechy a Morava' at the bottom, pointing to the country at this time passing from a sovereign Czech State to one of the states of Germany.
