Samye Monastery Tibet China

The Samye Monastery was the first Buddhist monastery built in Tibet, constructed in approximately 775 AD under the patronage of King Trisong Detsen of Tibet. The temple is laid out in the shape of a mandala, a representation of the Buddhist universe, with the main temple, utse, representing Mount Meru, the mythical mountian at the centre of the Buddhist universe.
