After a somewhat prolonged life he prepared himself for death with faith andcourage. His beautiful confession of faith, which Luther published, with a pref-ace, is entitled: Confession of Lazarus Spengler, formerly Syndic of the city ofNuremberg—Wittenberg, 1535. John Day built the first mill in the northern part of thecounty, before 1740. It was twelve and one half miles from first mill in the western end of the county, Paradise township,was erected by George Jacobs about 1750.
